Nichole Dawson – Art

ND

My name is Nichole Dawson and I am the art teacher at Mt. Pleasant Elementary School. I’m originally from East Tennessee from the small town of Harriman, TN which is a few minutes from Knoxville, TN. I attended college at Middle Tennessee State University and graduated with a degree in art education in 2014. After college, I discovered the great city of Mt. Pleasant, TN and I have been teaching art at Mt. Pleasant Elementary since 2014-2015 school year. I absolutely love teaching art to my very talented students. As an art teacher, I get to do what I love which is art and teaching and combining it together to give my students the best art education that they can get. In my class, students get to paint, draw, build, create recycled papier-mâché sculptures and much more. In addition, my students get to really be creative and use their imaginations so that they are ready to go out into the real-world and become the next innovators of the future.

Alice Holbert – Guidance

I am your School Counselor, Alice Holbert.  That means I spend my time trying to help students, parents, and teachers.  I love my job!  I like to show students new things and see things they are doing.  Sometimes I work with one or two students for a short while in my room.  Another time, my room is full of 25 students!  We talk, sing, play games, see stories, read books, and color as we learn about ourselves and how to get along with others.

I have been working with children and families for 34 years. I have a Master's + 45.   I have been a school psychologist as well as counselor.  That really helped me when I ran the Alternative Placement Program for Marshall County Schools.  I also work with Veterans who need help getting services.  My hobby is gardening.  I rest by pulling grass out of my flower beds!  What I like is not a chore because I like the outcome!  Come visit me at my classroom any time.

Elizabeth McDonald – Library

EM

I’m Elizabeth McDonald, and I have been the librarian at MPES since January 2013. I began teaching at Mt. Pleasant in January of 2005. I taught first and second grade before becoming the librarian. I received my Bachelor’s Degree from Martin Methodist College in December of 2004. I received my Master’s Degree from Trevecca Nazarene University in Library and Information Science in 2009 and my Ed. S in Administration and Supervision in 2011 from Tennessee Tech University. I hope to instill a lifelong love of reading and knowledge to the children I teach. It is my professional goal to provide academic support to the classroom teachers through read alouds, writing activities, research and technology by using Tennessee’s ELA Standards. My husband and I live in Summertown and we have two daughters, Isabella (9) and Olivia (4), that are students at MPES.

Kelly Stoops – Technology

KS

Hello! My name is Kelly Stoops, and I am the Technology teacher at MPES. I was born and raised in Columbia, TN, and am a proud product of the Maury County School district. I have two sons who attend Maury County Schools also. I earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee at Martin. Following my college days, I worked in the Securities and Investments industry for about 10 years. I chose to go back to college and earn a Masters of Arts in Teaching from Trevecca Nazarene University in Nashville, TN. I began my teaching career at Riverside Elementary School in Maury County. I taught 5th grade for two years, and then moved to Kindergarten for three years. I came to MPES in the fall of 2013, and taught 1st grade for the 2013-2014 school year. In the fall of 2014, I began teaching Technology and have loved it since! I love inspiring children to explore all the ways technology can benefit them. I also try to plant a seed of desire to not only be consumers of technology, but to also be creators of technology. When I am not teaching, you can find me on the football field or basketball court cheering on my boys! They keep me going, but I enjoy every minute of the craziness of raising two active sons. I look forward to many more great years at MPES!
